President’s report.

  • College of Education. A new policy on class sizes came from the Instructional Planning Office
  • Curriculum. We are getting reports of student unhappiness with the limited and low-level (often high school redux) courses available in the general education curriculum approved by the Board of Governors.
  • Midterm election. Discussion.
  • Certification. We will be conducting a membership blitz in November. In preparation, we will need volunteers. We will ask faculty to fill out reminder post cards to be sent to them when the certification election occurs. Discussion.
  • Litigation. UFF filed a lawsuit on PTR. A lot of the problematic laws were pushed by the Family Foundation of Washington.
  • Chapter constitution and bylaws. The constitution and bylaws will have to be updated. Discussion.
  • FEA Delegate Assembly. Discussion.
  • Board of Trustees. Steve Lang will ask for ten minutes at the next meeting.
  • Upcoming Midterm. Steve Lang had an experience earlier this century when voting on a touch screen, and it registered votes for candidates that he did not vote for. [Note: there are complaints of this happening in this election: see, .e.g. the CNN report, Can electronic voting machines change your vote? Here’s what experts say.]
  • Chapter Meetings. The Chapter will ask to reserve the Sabal Room for the Spring semester.

Reports.

  • Membership. We are preparing for the blitz.
  • Treasury. We may face legal bills.
  • Publicity. We may want to make changes in website maintenance. Discussion.
  • Contract Enforcement. We are getting a lot of grievances.
