Time and place. The meeting was conducted at 12 noon on USF Tampa in EDU415 and on Zoom.
Attendance. 18 members and one staff.
President’s Report.
- Recertification. Materials for recertification were submitted to Tallahassee. We will continue to collect SOI cards. Current law requires 60% density for automatic recertification; this is being litigated, but will not be resolved soon.
New Business.
- NEA Summit Meeting and Artificial Intelligence. Susan Ariew demonstrated MicroSoft CoPilot, which accesses ChatGPT4 and Dall-E. Greg McColm attended the NEA Summit Meeting and was a co-presenter of one of the Artificial Intelligence sessions: the NEA is concerned about whose interests will be represented during development of AI tools. Discussion.
- BOT Meetings. We may publicize the BOT meetings on March 18 (Tampa) and June 4 (location TBD) to encourage people to attend.
Reports.
- Grievances. Several grievance stuck in Step 2 because of Administration’s refusal to go to arbitration. We anticipate more expensive litigation as a result. Discussion.
- Membership. The membership drive starts after Spring Break. We need a Membership Chair and a duly constituted Membership Committee. Discussion of the campaign.
- Treasury. Action:
- Motion made and seconded to increase compensation to Casker Creative $5,160 for a total of $10,100 annually for additional computer services and support. Motion approved unanimously. A contract will be composed.
- Bargaining. We will propose meeting on Friday afternoons. Discussion.
