President’s Report.

  • PERC. UFF won the certification election by 98%.
  • H1B visas. USF and UF have lots of faculty on visas. We will send out a Biweekly advising people to submit comments on the proposed rule suspending hiring H1B visa holders.
  • Faculty Senate. Three issues from the latest Senate meeting.
    • USFSM. A proposal to hand the USFSM campus over the NCF is in the legislative hopper. The primary motive may be income from college sports. It is not clear where USFSM faculty would wind up.
    • Graduate Enrollment. Graduate enrollment at USF has substantially declined at USF in the last seven years. This seems to be a problem unique to USF and afflicting most of the system.

New Business

  • Election Committee.
The Election Committee presented a proposal to the Chapter: the Call for Nominations would be broadcast in a Biweekly Special to members on February 1. Nominations would be due on February 22, along with campaign statements. Ballots would be mailed to members by March 2, and the deadline for receipt would be March 21. Ballots would be counted on March 23 and reported to the UFF office by March 27.
