Ratifying a New Contract

As announced last week, the United Faculty of Florida (representing UFF USF employees) and the USF Administration (representing the USF Board of Trustees) have tentatively agreed to a new contract. The proposed contract is posted on our Bargaining a New Contract page. The two chief negotiators announced the following significant items:

  • provides pay increases to permanent faculty for three consecutive years beginning with a $2000.00 one-time bonus payable upon full ratification of the CBA, followed by a 3.5% base increase to all faculty with satisfactory evaluations effective August 2022, and then a 2.0% base increase to all faculty with satisfactory evaluations effective August 2023;
  • base salary increases are cumulative and not contingent;
  • creates a 1% discretionary pool in every year of the contract to fund faculty compensation adjustments for special achievements, market equity, counter offers, and awards;
  • extends the tuition waiver program to faculty, which allows USF employees to transfer their own unused credit hours of instruction to their spouses, domestic partners, or dependents, including children for the purpose of enrolling in eligible courses, all pursuant to a plan developed by the University;
  • strengthened the participation of the faculty in developing expectations for evaluation;
  • updates the article on sexual harassment and Title IX;
  • supports a clinical practice plan for nursing faculty, a first at USF;
  • commitments to study and address faculty salary equity; and
  • maintains the protections and processes with which the faculty are accustomed.
But this contract does not come into force until ratified by the USF UFF employees and the USF Board of Trustees. The USF Chapter of UFF will arrange for voting by ballot on the three campuses at dates, times and locations to be announced during the weeks of April 25 - 29 and May 2 - 6. The USF Board of Trustees will vote as soon as that can be arranged. Both the USF Chapter of UFF and the USF Administration strongly recommend ratification to their constituents.

UFF will hold a Q&A Town Hall on the proposed contract on Friday, April 22, at 2 pm. The session will be hybrid, both physically in EDU 261 on USF Tampa and on Zoom on a link to be sent out in the Thursday Biweekly. All UFF USF employees - UFF members and non-members alike - are invited to come to the Town Hall.

The Town Hall will follow the UFF USF Chapter Meeting on that Friday that starts at 12 noon, also hybrid, in EDU 261 or by a Zoom link; for the Zoom link to the chapter meeting, contact the Chapter Secretary. There will be sandwiches, fruit, sodas, and sweets, and all UFF USF employees - UFF members and non-members alike - are invited.
