UFF Social on November 1

Come to the Day-After-Hallowe'en Social at St. Petersburg. UFF invites all USF faculty and professionals to Fall at Ferg's on Tuesday, November 1, starting at 6 pm, at Ferg's Sports Bar & Grill, 1320 Central Avenue, St. Petersburg. We will be in the back room downstairs. Bring your questions about the new contract, salary adjustments, recent legislation, the upcoming election, and more. Come and check us out.

Getting Out the Vote

Who put Election Day right next to Hallowe'en? asked a political cartoonist, and indeed there will be candidates trick or treating for our votes right up to Election Day, November 8 - although early voting is underway in Hillsborough, Manatee, Pinellas, and Sarasota counties. (There is a site for early voting for Hillsborough County voters on USF Tampa campus: at the USF Training Center (PTB - Training Room) on 13309 USF Plum Drive, off of USF Holly Drive (C-2 on the USF Tampa campus map). Polls are open from 7 am to 7 pm. Don't forget to bring photo ID (e.g. Florida Driver's License or ID Card).

And we get the government we elect.

For more information for voters, see the For Voters page in the website for the Florida Division of Elections. And you can look up your county supervisor of elections here.

On the Ballot

There will be candidates for governor, members of Congress, state cabinet officers, state legislators, judges to retain (or not), county commissioners, school board members, possibly even mayors and city council members.

There will also be referenda.

One referendum is a state constitutional amendment to abolish the Constitution Revision Commission, which meets every other decade to compose possible state constitutional amendments. USF is hosting a debate between State Senator Jeff Brandes and former State Senator Lisa Carlton on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 12:30 - 1:30, on USF St. Petersburg campus, in the University Student Center ballroom. It is open to the public and will also be streamed on Teams. For more information, visit the Harbor Notes Events.

Update on Post Tenure Review

In September, the Florida State University System Board of Governors floated a proposal to institute a "post-tenure review" policy. The proposal quickly attracted negative reactions and disappeared, but the next meeting of the Board of Governors is on November 9 & 10, the day after the election - here at USF. The location has not been announced, but on Wednesday, the Faculty Senate was informed that the Board will meet downtown, apparently at the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine. We do not know what the Board may do that day, but stay tuned.
