Chapter Meeting Friday at USF Tampa

The UFF USF Chapter will meet Friday Noon on USF Tampa in EDU 161. The results of the election will be finalized then. Everyone is invited to attend.

$ 500 Travel Grants for UFF Members

The USF Chapter of the UFF will award six $ 500 Travel Scholarships for summer and fall. This will be for travel for participation in a professional activity. All applications are due by April 20, and only UFF members are eligible. In addition, no recipient of the Fall 2016 cycle of travel grants is eligible to apply. The six recipients shall be selected by lot at the April 20 chapter meeting. For more information, see the Travel Scholarship Flyer.

Election Returns

The UFF USF Chapter conducted its annual election, and here are the preliminary results:

  • Art Shapiro was elected to another term as President.
  • Steve Lang was elected to another term as Vice President.
  • Greg McColm was elected to another term as Secretary.
  • Sonia Wohlmuth was elected to another term as Treasurer.
  • USF was assigned 21 UFF Senate seats. President Art Shapiro serves ex officio. Henry Alegria, Adrienne Berarducci, Karin Braunsberger, Pablo Brescia, Sheila Goethe, Leon Hardy, Steve Lang, Richard Manning, Greg McColm, Kathleen de la Pena McCook, Adriana Novoa, Vic Peppard, Steve Permuth, Scott Perry, Patricia Pettijohn, Frank Pyrtle III, Robert Welker, and Sonia Wohlmuth were elected. There were twelve write-in candidates, and the remaining two seats will be assigned to willing candidates in the order of the number of votes received - ties being broken by lot.
  • USF was assigned seven FEA Assembly seats. Greg McColm, Steve Permuth, Art Shapiro, and Milton Wendland were elected. There were eighteen write-in candidates, and the remaining three seats will be assigned to willing candidates in the order of the number of votes received - ties being broken by lot.
The remaining Senate and Assembly seats shall be determined during the coming week and finalized at the next chapter meeting. We thank all those who participated by running for office or for seats, or by voting. And we thank Sara Dykins Callahan for serving as Election Chair.

The United Faculty of Florida is a participatory democracy, but it needs people to participate.

  • If you are already a member and would like to become more active, please contact us. We need all the volunteers we can get! In particular:
    • The Grievance Committee helps UFF members in trouble, especially if there are contract violations. If you are interested in helping your colleagues, please contact Sonia Wohlmuth.
    • The Political Committee educates politicians - and every two years, helps the union make endorsement decisions. If you are interested, please contact Greg McColm.
    • The Communications Committee maintains lines of communication between union members and activists, and between activists. If you are interested, please contact Greg McColm.
    • The Membership / Services Committee recruits new members and recruits members to become active. If you are interested, please contact Adrienne Berarducci.

LOGISTICS

Chapter Meeting Friday, April 7, at noon, on USF Tampa, in EDU 161. There will be sandwiches, snacks, drinks, and sweets. All UFF members are invited to attend. Non-members are also invited to come and check us out. Come and join the movement.

Membership: Everyone in the UFF USF System Bargaining unit is eligible for UFF membership: to join, simply fill out and send in the membership form.
