On Friday, USF President Judy Genshaft sent a letter to the USF Community reminding us to vote. "This year's election is a very important one for our state and local community. In addition to electing a new Governor of Florida, there are multiple statewide races on this year's ballot, including an election for the U.S. Senate, Florida's Attorney General, Chief Financial Officer and Commissioner of Agriculture, and several proposed amendments to the Florida Constitution. Locally, there are multiple races for seats in the Florida Legislature, the Hillsborough County Commission and School Board."
One thing that President Genshaft did not mention: the governor directly or indirectly appoints most of our Board of Trustees - and most of the Florida Board of Governors. We should take the gubernatorial election very seriously.
President Genshaft wrote, "I encourage all students, faculty and staff to educate themselves on the candidates and issues and exercise your right to vote by November 6th." Early voting for Hillsborough residents will be available at Gate A of the Yeungling Center this week from October 22 to November 4, from 7 am to 7 pm.
Chapter Meeting Friday, November 2, at noon at USF Sarasota / Manatee at room TBA. There will be free lunch. Come and check us out.
