We have a Facebook page!  Check out United Faculty of Florida at USF.  It is public (so anyone - students, colleagues, the provost - and read it) and all UFF members are eligible to join the group that posts items on it.  The page serves as a forum for UFF members to share issues and interests.  Check it out!

Occupy ...

Starting with Occupy Wall Street, the Occupy movement has spread across the country and around the world. There is no central leadership, no program, and no agenda; it is an "emergent phenomenon" arising from our society in which self-motivated people participate to air a general grievance about the state and structure of our economy.

Here are some upcoming events:

This may be a time when our society makes critical decisions about its future, and the Occupy movement can help focus our attention on the decisions that we have to make – for they will be made, by others by default if we do not participate in the decision-making. If you want to participate in local Occupy movements, here are some connections:

But the reality is that the problems remain and reforms require patient work. The Occupy movement helps by focusing attention on the problem and motivating solutions. But implementing solutions – and making sure that they are implemented – requires organization. If you want to make your Occupation into something that will last, we strongly encourage you to join an organization that is working towards positive goals. Some of the most important organizations are unions. If you are not a member of a union, we encourage you to join; if there is no union where you work, you should consider organizing one.
