February 8 Chapter Meeting Starts at 11 am in USF St. Petersburg

The next UFF USF Chapter Meeting has been rescheduled to meet at 11 am. We will meet at the USF St. Petersburg campus, room TBA.

Call for Nominations

The UFF USF Chapter strongly encourages dues paying UFF members to run in the coming chapter elections.

For information on the offices and representative seats, see the 24 January 2013 Biweekly. For those UFF members interested in becoming active and learning what UFF is all about, we encourage members to consider running for a UFF Senate seat; senators will attend the UFF (statewide) senate during two weekends in the 2013-2014 academic year - in Tampa and/or Orlando.

The nomination form is posted online; download it, fill it in using a word processor, and email it to the Election Chair. All nominations (and self-nominations are encouraged) and all nomination materials are due by February 15; in addition, one must be a UFF member by February 15 in order to run and/or vote.

Collective Bargaining Update

UFF USF Chief Negotiator Bob Welker presented the following Collective Bargaining Update to the USF Tampa Faculty Senate on January 23. The (current) 2010-2013 Collective Bargaining Agreement - the contract between USF faculty and professionals and the USF Board fo Trustees that was bargained by the United Faculty of Florida and the USF Administration - is posted online. Articles and sections mentioned below refer to proposed changes in current contract text.

COLLECTIVE BARGAINING UPDATE
Presented to USF Tampa Faculty Senate
January 23, 2013

The following collective bargaining proposals were presented by the UFF at three (3) collective bargaining sessions during 2012:

Article 3 UFF Privileges
Modify 3.4 Released Time to increase number of units.

Article 14 Promotion
Complete rewrite

Article 20 Grievance Procedure and Arbitration
Modify 20.8 Formal Grievance Procedure in 20.8A, 20.8C and 20.8D to increase the time for filing a grievance, to add more detail regarding Step 1 procedures and to place a limitation on the selection by the university of a designated university representative to hear a Step 2 review

Article 21 Other Employee Rights
Add 21.8 Public Records Request requiring the university to notify an employee when a public records request is made concerning the employee.

Article 27 Miscellaneous Provisions
Delete 27.2 Effect of Passage of Law

Article 28 Severability
Delete (b), (c) and a portion of (d) which relate to the invalidation of provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement due to the passage of conflicting legislation

The UFF is currently in the process of drafting other collective bargaining proposals including a complete rewrite of Article 15 Tenure.

At this time, the University of South Florida has neither provided any written responses to the above UFF collective bargaining proposals nor presented any written collective bargaining proposals of its own.
